Some effective steps of cleaning a powder coating gun

Powder coating is quite a popular process, which is an alternative to conventional wet painting for automotive and other metal parts. It basically involves a process in which a layer of specially treated solid pigment in the form of a dry powder is applied to a surface. However, before, an item can be coated, it is essential to clean the surface and make it free from dirt, grease or oil. Apart from cleaning the surface that is required to be coated, it is also essential to clean the equipment used for powder coating in a proper manner. Cleaning a powder coating gun can maintain and extend the life of the equipment. While coating, powder residue often sticks to the inside of the gun in moist or humid climates, reducing the overall performance of the equipment. Since the substance that is used while coating is a dry material, therefore the residue that is left in the gun can be easily cleaned.

Some simple and effective ways of cleaning a powder coating gun are:

·         Firstly prepare the area where the powder coating gun will be cleaned and lay a tarp under the gun so that escaping powder residue will not spread and stain. Now unplug the powder coating gun and discharge the gun, if there is any remaining voltage. In order to discharge the gun, touch the emitter to the ground clip.
·         Now unscrew the cap chamber cup that holds the powder and pour the remaining powder in the container. Spray compressed air to clean the discharge outlet, the outside of the pickup tubes, the deflector, cup and static tubes. It is recommended not to use more than thirty psi of compressed air.
·         Now twist off the deflector and remove the static tubes. Using an air compressor, clean the inside and outside of the tube. Although air compressor can clean the powder of the tubes, it is advisable to also use an engine-cleaning brush.
·         Now clean the inside of the pickup tube by spraying the air directly inside the tube. Reattach the deflector and the static tubes and store you are powder coating gun in an area that is free from moisture.

An electrostatic powder coating spray gun utilizes a series of different technological paint styles including High Volume Low Pressure application and airless coatings. The gun provides an electrostatic field to the atomized paint particles to promote adhesion and a wider area of material coverage. The main function of electrostatic powder coating spray gun is to allow liquid paint to become electrically charged during application when a grounded object is being worked on.
